RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL

Geotourism is defined as tourism that sustains, or even enhances, the geographical character of a place, such as its culture, environment, heritage, and the well-being of its residents.— “National Geographic”

  • Responsible Travel and Responsible Tourism

Responsible Travel - The top line

Responsible travel is a new way of travelling for those who are tired of or dislike travelling to very busy destinations and who are looking for excitement and a change.  Responsible travel is about respecting the culture & the environment of the place you visit; familiarizing yourself with the local people, helping them benefit economically and much more.

If you are interested in excitement, adventure, discovering & learning something new rather than checking off another place or thing to see just like so many others, then responsible travel is perfect for you.

    The Awareness

"Brazil Geo Mine Tourism" is a strong supporter of Responsible Tourism and as such was formed to show our commitment to practice and promote its philosophy.

At "Brazil Geo Mine Tourism", we believe that:

    • It is essential to learn and respect the customs and culture of any region we visit thereby demonstrating encouragement and support for the preservation of natural and cultural heritage.
    • We will endeavour to ensure that local people benefit economically from tourism by employing them as leaders and guides, dining in local restaurants/markets and using family-run hotels where-ever possible.
    • We maintain small-group sizes to limit negative social and environmental impacts. Further, it permits better accessibility to become familiar with local people and their culture.
    • UNESCO World Heritage Sites and community-based ecotourism activities are incorporated into our tours.
    • We do not use suppliers that support or use exploitative practices. For example, we do not condone selling endangered species products or harming threatened habitats.
    • We do not support collection of fossils & minerals in preserved areas and we follow the "Rockhound Code of Ethics". Adherence to the Code of Ethics assures compliance with most statutes and regulations governing collecting on public lands and encourages respect for private property rights and the environment. Travelers are urged to read the Rockhound Code of Ethics.

Giving back to the community

While much of the focus is on ensuring travelers are provided an enriching experience, the same goes for the communities we visit and the cities we work in. Sustainability is at the core of our type of travel.

Some of our community-based initiatives 'at home' include:

Building a Future for Orphaned Children

We are delighted to be able to help an orphanage in Teófilo Otoni, MG, Brazil.

The Children of MeiMei is a recognized Brazilian charity organization [Charity #: SC036556] that works to improve the lives of children and families affected by poverty. The organization maintains a school and a day care program for orphan children, the children of garimpeiros, low income maids and unemployed people.

Stonebridge Imports Ltd. is proud to contribute 5%  of  Brazil Geo Mine Tourism's total tour revenue to support the construction of the multi-purpose  playing court located at MeiMei location.

Ecological Brick

Through "Brazil Geo Mine Tourism" we are endeavouring to bring the Ecological Brick program into reality.

The purpose of this program is to save the rivers by building houses utilizing all the clay waste that comes from the mines; that waste usually silts up and pollutes the rivers during pluvial season.

The clay from that region (the mining area of Padre Paraiso, a town situated North of Teófilo Otoni city, in the State of Minas Gerais) is suitable for "cold pressed" brick making. While recycling the waste, the bricks will help the "garimpeiros" to build better houses using those bricks.

Detailed information will be available on line soon.

Click here to Contact us if you would like to see this project become a reality.  We welcome any suggestions or ideas you have to offer for fund raising and would be pleased to accept any donation you are prepared to offer.
